Officials in Aurora broke ground Wednesday on an 81-unit affordable apartment complex.
The project, Sapling Grove Apartments, by Grovewood Community Development received $23 million in bond financing from the state. State officials joined Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“There continues to be a crucial need for the creation of affordable housing options that meet the needs of households of diverse types, sizes, preferences and incomes,” according to a news release from Grovewood. “According to the most recent available data from the City of Aurora’s Housing Strategy, there is a deficit of more than 7,500 affordable housing units in the city as the cost of renting or owning continues to outpace incomes. Sapling Grove will help reduce this deficit and support the city’s vision for achieving a city for all Aurorans.”
